Face tutorial

Hello everyone, thanks for popping by. Debs here with a tutorial, yes that's right, a tutorial! This year we are packing even more into the blog, by sharing our crafty tips, to you, our lovely followers. Throughout the year we hope to bring you photo steps outs and videos on a range of mixed media goodies. Shortly, a schedule will be put up so you will know what's coming up. I'm kicking off with a little series of faces starting with a simple black Stabilo All pencil and a little water Soluable felt. The focus isn't on the products, it's on how I have learnt to use them. I may talk about a product in my uncensored dialogue, which usually means be I'm excited about something. So below is the finished piece and the video is in two parts.

I hope you enjoyed watching my process and will come back to see what else we have in store for you. Bye for now Debs Ingrid and the Team xx

The problem is we live a in world where everybody is on a diffident agenda and not all people out there have your best interest at heart. Plainly said, I don't want to get spammed. :)

There is another challenge ready and starting for you today. As today is a Valentine's Day I (Ingrid) decided to go with the flow and want to see your makes reflecting 'LOVE'. It could be a mixed media card for a loved one, it could be an altered object, journalling, anything you fancy as long as it is a mixed media project and goes with the theme. Any colours go too! And for some inspiration our talented Design Team prepared some fab makes for this challenge. We're also joined by our new team members and what a great job they have done! Give them all a big round of applause and leave a message below. I'm sure they would love to hear from you! Here are their lovely makes...

Janka says: "Chcela som lásku zachytiť v malom formáte podobne ako v malom ľudskom srdci je priestor pre obrovský cit. Vybrala som si teda dve staré kocky domina a urobila tzv. domino book. Takýto malý dôkaz lásky si môžete nosiť vždy so sebou vo vrecku."
*****
"I wanted it to portray Love in on a small scale... just like in a human heart there is a space for a huge feeling. I chose to alter two tiny pieces of dominos and made a domino book. This tiny token of love can be carried in a pocket all the time!"

Feeling inspired? I hope so! These makes are fabulous and would get anyone excited! You have a whole month to join us with the challenge! If you join you could with a £20 voucher from That's Crafty!

.

Good luck to you all! Have a wonderful time crafting! We can't wait to see your designs!

Big hugs from me (Ingrid) and the team! xxxx

Welcome to Janka Mampouya!

Hi there!

I hope you are all well?

As promised, I am back with another exciting announcement... we now have three new Design Team members... you had a please of meeting Lena and finding out a little bit about Maria... and today it is another talented lady....

Volám sa Janka Mampouya a mám 40 rokov. Žijem v malom meste Námestovo na severe Slovenska so svojou rodinou - manželom a tromi synmi.
Aby každý človek mohol dýchať, potrebuje k tomu vzduch. Ja okrem toho potrebujem aj štetec a farby.

Janka

...and for those who have no idea what she just said...

My name is Janka Mampouya and I'm 40 years old. I live in a small town called Namestovo, in the North of Slovakia, with my family - my husband and my three sons.
Every person needs air to their life. Same for me, but I also need a brush and paints! I'm totally addicted to creating and art if all forms has followed me my entire life.
I have been scrapbooking for more than 9 years now. I recently fell in love with techniques used in mixed media, art journaling, collages and assemblage. I am still on a search of my handwriting, I love trying new techniques and I always set myself new goals when it comes to art.
My studio is always a mess, I love spending my time there surrounded by paints, stencils, stamps and various media... it is my way of self-expression, art therapy, endless observing and exploring the unknown, in times of happiness or sadness. I love to learn from others and to also teach others (i run workshops).
I feel very honoured to become a member of the Mixed Media World team and I will do my best to create some interesting inspiration for you all!

Janka

How sweet is this lady? I do hope I translated Janka's bio the way she meant it to sound. Oh, and if you wonder.... Janka is my fellow country woman!

I was born In Tatras, the highest mountains of Slovakia, hence I speak her language. I grew up in the Czech Republic, am half Hungarian and so languages are not an issue for me. I recently mentioned this and the fact that I have been living in the UK for the past 14 years or so to my colleague... I asked her... 'so, what does that make me...?' She paused and said... 'Not-totally-British'... LOL!!! How funny! It's a bit like that though :)

So when Janka contacted me saying she'd like to join us I immediately felt a friendship forming. My decision of asking her to join was however based solely on the fact that she is one heck of an artist and I would like to show you what I mean...

See! Told you! :)

Please give a nice warm welcome to Janka. She will be joining us with our next challenge in February! I will also be announcing the winners so stay tuned!

Hugs to you all! Stay creative!

Welcome to Maria from Magic Attic!

Dear crafty Friends,

I'm here with a wonderful task which is to introduce our new Design Team Member!

I received emails from so many talented artists and crafters out there. I'd like to thank to those who applied for the position. It was a real honour to have met you. It is probably no surprise when I say it was the most difficult job ever! Not only that I am terribly indecisive, but to pick just one or two out of all of the wonderfully talented people was nearly impossible. The emails started arriving and I was thinking more and more... 'oh, oh.. what have I done! I want to invite all of these ladies!!!''

But I look at our team and I saw something really special. You know what it was? I saw a VARIETY. I saw... UNIQUENESS... I saw.. AMBITION... and saw real LOVE for mixed media art. Then I decided to ask myself what was missing... I decided to set the feelings aside and realised that we were missing someone who would not only be a fabulous artist, but we were missing someone with a passion for scrapbooking. That's right! Scrapbooking has a huge space in the mixed media world out there so when this lovely lady contacted me it hit me! Not only that she is a scrapbooker, but she is a heck of a mixed media artist! I fell in love with her style, her sense of colour and textures, but she really seem like a sweet lady. And as you'll see from the image below she also is very beautiful!

Please, welcome our new Design Team member...

My name is Maria Lillepruun, I am 32 and I live in Tallinn, Estonia. I am a wife and a loving mom of a boy and a girl. I've been involved in mixed media art and scrapbooking for 2 years and I actually do it every day, it's my biggest passion. In real life I'm a conservator, I restore paintings and polychrome objects, so I know all about patina and rust :) I always create in Mixed Media, and my favourite styles are vintage and grunge, but I also love natural materials and childish colour blasts, so you can expect just anything from me. Most of all I love layouts and altered art. I also like to make notebooks.
My website is called Magic Attic Design and it is here: http://www.magicatticdesign.com/

I hope you are as excited as I am about Maria joining our team. Please fee free to say hi to Maria and give her a nice warm welcome. Please visit Maria's blog and take a peek at her gorgeous work. Thank you or agreeing to join us, Maria! I can't wait to see what you'll create for our challenges!

Guest Designer: SARA EMILY aka sarascloset

Hi there!

We have a special guest here with us today! We have invited the lovely and beautifully talented Sara Emily aka sarascloset to guest design for us today!

*****

Hello! My name is Sara Emily, otherwise known as sarascloset, which is my blog name and also where I do most of my crafting. I live in Wilmington, North Carolina in the USA, just minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast. I am married and have 17 year old boy/girl twins and boy/girl twin kitties!

I’ve dabbled in many crafts from stain glass to up cycling discarded furniture and handcrafting the occasional Christmas ornament. I’ve even given a variety of art mediums a try in high school and college. When my sister became seriously ill several years ago, I promised her a homemade card every day until she was better. I made and sent her a daily handmade card for about 18 months without fail. So, I’ve had lots of practice and love making cards!

I’ve loved mixed media even before I knew what it was called, and I love to experiment with products I already have on hand. I’ll try anything once, twice if I like it!

Thank you, Ingrid and the entire talented Design team for inviting me to spend the day with you today! It was so much fun!

*****

Sara Emily joined the fun and made a beautiful project to coincide with our current challenge...

This is absolutely stunning, Sara Emily! I love the gorgeous snowflakes, the colours and textures are out of this world and I am very grateful that you agreed to join us here today and shared your amazing talent with us. We love your work and hope you can visit us again soon!

Big hugs,

MMW#10: Inspirational Image + new DT + surprise!!

Hello there!

Hope you're all well? This year is nearly over and I don't know about you, but it has been so full on so I can't wait to have a couple of weeks off and enjoy the festive season to the full. I will be spending time over Christmas to spruce up this website a bit. If you come back in 2016 and it looks no different it is most likely because I enjoyed the festivities way too much... heheeee!!

I have a lot to talk about today so make a cuppa or whatever you fancy and make yourself comfy. Today is the start of our new challenge this time chosen by our lovely Debs. There is Christmas all around and we thought we'd do something totally different, because we like to invite ALL crafty friends around the world to our challenges, even the ones that don't celebrate Christmas. We made it quite simple for you too... a beautiful natural palette of colours and an image.

These are the colours for my December Inspiration. Curtesy of Design Seeds.

You can create anything you like, follow any theme (even Christmas), as long as it is a mixed media project, you need to follow the colour scheme and copy our inspirational image into your blog post so that everyone can see what colour scheme you were supposed to follow. Sounds like fun?

The sponsor of our next challenge is The Old Design Shop...

.

... you have a chance to win 3 gorgeous images from Julie's Etsy shop! These are no ordinary images! These are full of character vintage images that you can use for any art, including image transfers, layouts, cards, tags... whatever you an think of!

HERE comes to SURPRISE>>>

Because it is Christmas and I'm feeling all festive I will personally pick my three favourites from all entries once the challenge is over at the beginning of January. Each of these three lucky winners will get £10 voucher to my chosen online craft shop!! This is sponsored by me (Ingrid). You can use your voucher in those fabulous January sales!!! Yay! The only thing I ask for in return is that you help me spread the word about our blog so that more people can come and have some fun. You can grab our badge and pop it on the side bar of your blog for a month or however long and/or you could share our post via your social media... thank you very much! xxx

*****

I have another excited news for you today!!! That's right, you're going to be so spoilt by the time you get to the end of this post!

I would like to introduce and welcome our lovely new extremely talented Design Team member, Lena

This lady was actually one of our winners and I was so impressed with her style and her knack for mixed media art that I simply had to ask her to join us so that you could be inspired by her art even more. I hope you can visit her gorgeous blog and say hi! Before I show you what our talented DT prepared for this challenge let's take a look at Lena's work...

...and some inner pages...

Isn't this journal awesome! As promised, here are the wonderful inspirational pieces from the Design Team...

Our DT Call is nearly over. I will not be making any decision until after 15th December so please feel free to email for your chance to become one of the Design Team members. Thank you to all that contacted me so far. If I sad it was going to be the hardest thing to select only one or two it would be an understatement.
