MMW#12: VINTAGE

Hi everyone!

Thank you for stopping by! It's time for a new challenge! If you are in need of some serious doze of mixed media to get you going, look no further! When I say today's inspiration from the design team is the most wonderful I really mean it! When I saw the makes they submitted my jaw dropped!

Before I show you all their gorgeous makes I'd like to announce the new winner and our Fab 3! We had so many lovely entries again! You are such a talented bunch!
I always enjoy seeing your very own interpretation of our themes. We always try to pick themes when every single one of you can find a way to join in. If you would like to see a particular theme that we have no covered then let us know. Thinking about it, it could be a great fun, if YOU were to challenge us! Why not?! Here's an idea... leave a comment below with your theme suggestions and I'll pop them all in a hat and pick one for the month of July! We'll make a whole challenge out of this and the person I pick the theme from will get to join us in July as a Guest Designer. Sounds like fun? So if you'd like to give it a go then leave a comment with your idea of a theme for July below! I'm excited already!

Our last talented winner is....

...and our Fab 3 are...

CONGRATULATIONS! You all deserve a recognition for you wonderful works of art! Please feel free to add a relevant badge to your blog. Please could the winner email me - ingridscraftscorner (@) hotmail. co .uk - to claim the prize and to confirm if you would like to Guest Design for us.

Please ensure you rewrite the email address in a correct form without the brackets and spaces. Sometimes people email me via my contact form (which is fine too) saying the email doesn't work. The problem is we live a in world where everybody is on a diffident agenda and not all people out there have your best interest at heart. Plainly said, I don't want to get spammed. :)

Our next challenge is all about 'Vintage' and is chosen by Lena. Some of you might be a bit worried... oh dear, this is not my style. Well, think about it... 'vintage' is more or less a fancy word for 'old' and can be interpreted in many ways. Don't forget there are many periods in the past like retro that also count. 80s and 90s are just pushing it, don't try it :) As a mixed media challenge we're looking for the mixed media look, but otherwise you can let your imagination go wild! And to inspire you a little bit here is a whole bunch of mixed media gorgeousness from my teamies...

Maria

Note: Maria has a big surprise for you! Stay tuned so you don't miss out!!!!

Now that's what I'm talking about!! Wow! I hope the above got your creative juices flowing!

We will look forward to seeing your gorgeous makes! You could win 3 gorgeous images from the Old Design Shop on Etsy and use them in any of your projects.

Face tutorial

Hello everyone, thanks for popping by. Debs here with a tutorial, yes that's right, a tutorial! This year we are packing even more into the blog, by sharing our crafty tips, to you, our lovely followers. Throughout the year we hope to bring you photo steps outs and videos on a range of mixed media goodies. Shortly, a schedule will be put up so you will know what's coming up. I'm kicking off with a little series of faces starting with a simple black Stabilo All pencil and a little water Soluable felt. The focus isn't on the products, it's on how I have learnt to use them. I may talk about a product in my uncensored dialogue, which usually means be I'm excited about something. So below is the finished piece and the video is in two parts.

There is another challenge ready and starting for you today. As today is a Valentine's Day I (Ingrid) decided to go with the flow and want to see your makes reflecting 'LOVE'. It could be a mixed media card for a loved one, it could be an altered object, journalling, anything you fancy as long as it is a mixed media project and goes with the theme. Any colours go too! And for some inspiration our talented Design Team prepared some fab makes for this challenge. We're also joined by our new team members and what a great job they have done! Give them all a big round of applause and leave a message below. I'm sure they would love to hear from you! Here are their lovely makes...

Janka says: "Chcela som lásku zachytiť v malom formáte podobne ako v malom ľudskom srdci je priestor pre obrovský cit. Vybrala som si teda dve staré kocky domina a urobila tzv. domino book. Takýto malý dôkaz lásky si môžete nosiť vždy so sebou vo vrecku."
*****
"I wanted it to portray Love in on a small scale... just like in a human heart there is a space for a huge feeling. I chose to alter two tiny pieces of dominos and made a domino book. This tiny token of love can be carried in a pocket all the time!"

Feeling inspired? I hope so! These makes are fabulous and would get anyone excited! You have a whole month to join us with the challenge! If you join you could with a £20 voucher from That's Crafty!

.

Good luck to you all! Have a wonderful time crafting! We can't wait to see your designs!

Big hugs from me (Ingrid) and the team! xxxx

Welcome to Janka Mampouya!

Hi there!

I hope you are all well?

As promised, I am back with another exciting announcement... we now have three new Design Team members... you had a please of meeting Lena and finding out a little bit about Maria... and today it is another talented lady....

Volám sa Janka Mampouya a mám 40 rokov. Žijem v malom meste Námestovo na severe Slovenska so svojou rodinou - manželom a tromi synmi.
Aby každý človek mohol dýchať, potrebuje k tomu vzduch. Ja okrem toho potrebujem aj štetec a farby.

Janka

...and for those who have no idea what she just said...

My name is Janka Mampouya and I'm 40 years old. I live in a small town called Namestovo, in the North of Slovakia, with my family - my husband and my three sons.
Every person needs air to their life. Same for me, but I also need a brush and paints! I'm totally addicted to creating and art if all forms has followed me my entire life.
I have been scrapbooking for more than 9 years now. I recently fell in love with techniques used in mixed media, art journaling, collages and assemblage. I am still on a search of my handwriting, I love trying new techniques and I always set myself new goals when it comes to art.
My studio is always a mess, I love spending my time there surrounded by paints, stencils, stamps and various media... it is my way of self-expression, art therapy, endless observing and exploring the unknown, in times of happiness or sadness. I love to learn from others and to also teach others (i run workshops).
I feel very honoured to become a member of the Mixed Media World team and I will do my best to create some interesting inspiration for you all!

Janka

*****
How sweet is this lady? I do hope I translated Janka's bio the way she meant it to sound. Oh, and if you wonder.... Janka is my fellow country woman!

I was born In Tatras, the highest mountains of Slovakia, hence I speak her language. I grew up in the Czech Republic, am half Hungarian and so languages are not an issue for me. I recently mentioned this and the fact that I have been living in the UK for the past 14 years or so to my colleague... I asked her... 'so, what does that make me...?' She paused and said... 'Not-totally-British'... LOL!!! How funny! It's a bit like that though :)

So when Janka contacted me saying she'd like to join us I immediately felt a friendship forming. My decision of asking her to join was however based solely on the fact that she is one heck of an artist and I would like to show you what I mean...

See! Told you! :)

Please give a nice warm welcome to Janka. She will be joining us with our next challenge in February! I will also be announcing the winners so stay tuned!

Hugs to you all! Stay creative!

Welcome to Maria from Magic Attic!

Dear crafty Friends,

I'm here with a wonderful task which is to introduce our new Design Team Member!

I received emails from so many talented artists and crafters out there. I'd like to thank to those who applied for the position. It was a real honour to have met you. It is probably no surprise when I say it was the most difficult job ever! Not only that I am terribly indecisive, but to pick just one or two out of all of the wonderfully talented people was nearly impossible. The emails started arriving and I was thinking more and more... 'oh, oh.. what have I done! I want to invite all of these ladies!!!''

But I look at our team and I saw something really special. You know what it was? I saw a VARIETY. I saw... UNIQUENESS... I saw.. AMBITION... and saw real LOVE for mixed media art. Then I decided to ask myself what was missing... I decided to set the feelings aside and realised that we were missing someone who would not only be a fabulous artist, but we were missing someone with a passion for scrapbooking. That's right! Scrapbooking has a huge space in the mixed media world out there so when this lovely lady contacted me it hit me! Not only that she is a scrapbooker, but she is a heck of a mixed media artist! I fell in love with her style, her sense of colour and textures, but she really seem like a sweet lady. And as you'll see from the image below she also is very beautiful!

Please, welcome our new Design Team member...

My name is Maria Lillepruun, I am 32 and I live in Tallinn, Estonia. I am a wife and a loving mom of a boy and a girl. I've been involved in mixed media art and scrapbooking for 2 years and I actually do it every day, it's my biggest passion. In real life I'm a conservator, I restore paintings and polychrome objects, so I know all about patina and rust :) I always create in Mixed Media, and my favourite styles are vintage and grunge, but I also love natural materials and childish colour blasts, so you can expect just anything from me. Most of all I love layouts and altered art. I also like to make notebooks.
My website is called Magic Attic Design and it is here: http://www.magicatticdesign.com/
