MMW#13: Get In Gear

Hi folks!!   Georgie here with you today, our lovely Ingrid is taking a well earned holiday and break, but will be back with us again soon!

Thank you for stopping by today! We just love mixed media here and love to challenge ourselves and give you some inspiration too! Speaking of challenges, our new one starts today, but before I go any further with that we have a winner and some Fab 3 to announce:

*** New Challenge *** 

Our next challenge is 'Get In Gear' and is chosen by Georgie. So think about all that stash you have that has cogs and gears in/on them and bring it out to play! Can be stamps, papers, embellishments, die-cuts, anything... You don't have to go vintage or rusty (all though you certainly can if you wish), but brights, lights are also very welcome. Just be sure your project includes cogs/gears somewhere in the piece. So let your imagination drive you!

Hello and Happy Easter! 

I hope you're having heaps of fun this Easter. The weather is awful where I live so the Easter Bunny left all of the chocolate in the house this time! :) We were also creative today.. we painted some eggs, made bunny ears and did some Easter themed colouring. I think the most enjoyable part for the two and four year old was the Easter hunt and of course eating heaps of chocolate! :) 

I have a special post for you today! Our December challenge winner is here with us today and oh my! She has absolutely ROCKED our current 'Vintage' challenge! I'd like to introduce... 

Jane Royston

Hi my name is Jane Royston and I live on the Isle of Wight in the UK. I am married with 3 children (aged 4, 10 and 14) and am qualified as a primary teacher but left about 5 years ago to stay at home with my youngest child. I have always loved crafting but got really into my card making, in particular stamping about 8 years ago. Then about a year ago I discovered mixed media and altered art!!! I love getting inky and painty and creating texture and layers so this type of craft is great for me.

Jane is amazingly talented. Her winning make was absolutely wonderful and what I'm about to show you is breathtakingly beautiful! Jane's attention to detail is brilliant. The colour scheme, the textures and the overall idea... you get it all within this gorgeous make. Feast your eyes upon it... 

This project is made using an IndigoBlu paper mâché mannequin that I had already bought and decorated a few years ago. I decided that I didn't like my original design and so repurposed it in a vintage style. There is a mixture of materials and the fabric has been made solid for working on by using Finnabair's new sculpture medium. I have added pearls, lace and roses to keep with the vintage feel and wanted it to look old so used sepia type colours. The flowers are a mixture of paper and crochet lace that have been coloured with spray inks and gilding wax (apart from the largest rose which has been put together using a stamp and die set) and the extra details are pearls, glitter and micro beads, with a few touched of curled wire. Video tutorial for 'Vintage' challenge by Maria

Hi there!

I hope you re enjoying your Sunday. How about a special Sunday treat? In my last post where we announced the start of our new challenge 'Vintage' I promised a special surprise from Maria and today I'd like to share it with you.

You will find out how she achieved the gorgeous look of her inspirational project for our challenge. How exciting is that?! So without any further ado, I'm handing over to Maria...

Hi! 

I have made an altered book which also serves me as a photo frame. I used a mix of old and new materials. The book itself is (was) a 19th Century music sheets´ collection. I decorated it with old lace and knitted napkins from the flea markets and brand new but somewhat aged lace, die cuts, scrapbooking paper, chipboards and flowers.

MMW#12: VINTAGE

Hi everyone! 

Thank you for stopping by! It's time for a new challenge! If you are in need of some serious doze of mixed media to get you going, look no further! When I say today's inspiration from the design team is the most wonderful I really mean it! When I saw the makes they submitted my jaw dropped! 

Before I show you all their gorgeous makes I'd like to announce the new winner and our Fab 3! We had so many lovely entries again! You are such a talented bunch! 

I always enjoy seeing your very own interpretation of our themes. We always try to pick themes when every single one of you can find a way to join in. If you would like to see a particular theme that we have no covered then let us know. Thinking about it, it could be a great fun, if YOU were to challenge us! Why not?! Here's an idea... leave a comment below with your theme suggestions and I'll pop them all in a hat and pick one for the month of July! We'll make a whole challenge out of this and the person I pick the theme from will get to join us in July as a Guest Designer. Sounds like fun? Our next challenge is all about 'Vintage' and is chosen by Lena. Some of you might be a bit worried... oh dear, this is not my style. Well, think about it... 'vintage' is more or less a fancy word for 'old' and can be interpreted in many ways. Don't forget there are many periods in the past like retro that also count. 80s and 90s are just pushing it, don't try it :) As a mixed media challenge we're looking for the mixed media look, but otherwise you can let your imagination go wild! And to inspire you a little bit here is a whole bunch of mixed media gorgeousness from my teamies...
