MMW#19: Assemblage/Altered Art

Hi everyone!

It's time for a new challenge! Whoohoo! We had some amazing entries last month and I'd like to thank you for participating. We will announce the winners on Wednesday next week so don't forget to come back to check out the results!

We're here with inspiration for our new challenge - Assemblage/Altered Art. The reason we are broadening the theme is because we are aware that assemblage is not everyone's cup of tea and we wouldn't want you to feel left out. The whole purpose of these challenges is to have fun.

Here are a few samples from the Design Team to get you going...

Ingrid
I decided to assemble and alter a couple of canvases. I had a great time creating this textured background adding a few rusty pieces.

Janka
I don't like throwing away fish cans. They are a great source of inspiration. I love putting old photos into them and turning them into a work of art. Like this, for example: /

Lena
There is something fascinating in rusty scrap. I was born next to the iron factory maybe that the reason. So let me introduce you to my friend, Steampunk Lady

Metal bed springs

Hat made of newspaper

Maria
I love creating mosaics but it is quite a messy hobby to do at home, so I basically practice it once a year :))) Last year I made this nautical picture frame for my son using broken glass pieces and various beads.

I hope you're feeling inspired. This challenge will run until 10th November 2016 so you have a plenty of time to create something and join the fun! Cant wait to see your makes! I hope you will be able to come up with something special and enter again this month. You could win a £15 voucher from our new sponsor Things to Alter!

Have a great time creating! Hugs,

Welcome to our new sponsor: Things To Alter

Hi everyone!

I have a pleasure to introduce a new sponsor of our challenges! I'd like to welcome Jac and her company Things To Alter into our Mixed Media World!

Jac has been running the company for about 6 years now and she has become an expert on MDF lazer cutting. You can purchase her fabulous MDF pieces directly from the Things To Alter website (click on the image above) and then share your makes with Jac via her Facebook page. Check out the Pinterest page as well. You will find plenty of inspiration there too!

I personally had a pleasure of working with sewing themed pieces for a feature in the Craft Stamper magazine. I got to alter the box and created a little Textile Art in a shadow box. That was great fun! All of the MDF pieces we made out of a sturdy and good quality material and to a very high standard which means they are perfect for any mixed media projects.

Here are a few pictures of the project from me...

... and some from the magazine feature...

The Craft Stamper magazine issue is packed with mixed media inspiration. It's out now so get your copy. In case you would like to make your own sewing shadow box, the magazine is also running a giveaway...

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you had a great time here. More inspiration coming your way soon so stay tuned and stay creative!

All the best

Guest Designer: Maayan Leizer

Hello there!

I hope you're well.

I am here to welcome and introduce a Guest Designer today. This talented lady is called..

My name is Maayan, I'm soon to be 33, married, vegan and have two cats.
I own a local online crafts store called Mr. Kitty Crafts and also have an Etsy store where I offer my creations for sale.
I started my way in scrapbooking about 3 years ago, fell in love with mixed media and most of my creations are in shabby chic, vintage or steampunk style.
I love winter, cats, aged and old items and am so happy to have found such pleasure in paper crafts.

*****

My artwork: 9.5*7.5 inches canvas.
Purple is one of my favorite colors, it can be mysterious, royal, enchanted, interesting and calming.
That's why I chose to create my enchanted forest in purple and turquoise. The unicorn along with the text suggest that even when the journey seems unknown, frightening, dark, almost impossible - you should take it, because you may discover yourself or at least find something new and exciting. I feel I'm going through one of those journeys in the past year.

Products used:
White and black Gesso
Lindy's mists
Chipboard die cuts and clay figures
Paper flowers
Blue fern stamps
Finnabair art stones and art alchemy paint (silver)
Lace appliques

Thank you :)
Maayan.

Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful Fantasy artwork with us, Maayan! It's a stunner and will inspire others to join our Fantasy/Magical challenge for sure!

The challenge is due to end on 6th October so don't hesitate and join the fun!

Thank you for stopping by today! We'll be back soon!

All the best,

Welcome to Virag Reti, our new DT member!

Hi! I'm back!

Missed me?;) hehe... I had the pleasure to announce our challenge winner, our giveaway winner and now to make it even more fun, I have the pleasure to introduce and welcome a wonderfully talented lady, Virag Reti!

Welcome, Virag! We are super-excited about you joining the team!

Name: Virág Réti

From: Budapest, Hungary

Achivements:
I am a member of the following design teams: Berry71Bleu, Studio75, Canvas Corp Brands,

Sugallatok (Hungarian). I was a guest designer for different big brands.

Favourite colours: brown in every possible ways...

Favourite media: gel medium, mists, modelling paste

My absolute 'must have' when creating: my non-stick craft mat is the best tool ever and some water in spray bottle

About: Virág means flower in Hungarian. I work as a chief of marketing on weekdays, but my passion is scrapbooking. This is not just a craft activity for me, it is my real holiday and time for relaxation. My scraproom is a calm island in this busy world. I started scrapbooking 5 years ago, but last year when I met with mixed media scrapbooking techniques in an American YouTube video I felt that I found my line, the technique what I was looking for. I am a coffee lover. I love singing loudly, but my voice is horrible. And I know, I am a bit crazy, because normal is boring for me. :)

What inspires me: A paper, a technique, a beautiful embellishment, a good photo can inspire me easily. I really like to recycle products in my creations, sometimes a dirty tissue, a little piece of fabric, an old piece of lace, a dress tag, etc. It happes that I redesign my layouts and reuse some parts of it on another page. I am not shy and hesitant when I made mistakes on my layouts, because everything can be fixed with a little creativity. One of my strength is that I can improvise during my creative process, I do not need to organise a long preparation process for creating the tutorial videos, I do not need to plan everything in advance.

My style: My style is vintage and grunge, sometimes a little romantic, but I cannot define exactly. I can reform day by day. I am able to prepare layouts in different styles, it depends on my mood, the embellishments and the papers I use.

What kind of projects I do?
  • scrapbook layouts
  • art journaling
  • altered art
  • tags/cards/ATC
  • mixed media
Some of my work:

And here's my inspiration for the new challenge:

I really love steampunk style so I decided that I mix it with fantasy. I found a gorgeous photo of a steampunk fairy. Normally I don't like using mood photos on my layouts, I prefer my photos, my memories, but I fell in love with this one. I used different kind of products and techniques. When I started the layout I wanted to keep it in brown tones, but during the process it formed into green and gold shades. I have never known what would happen during the creative process. I have never had plans what to do and this helps me to be spontaneous.

Wow! I mean, wow! This is what I'm talking about! Thank you, Virag, for this wonderful inspirational piece! It is amazing!

To top it all off, Virag prepared a video for us all! I know! We're being spoilt! Check it out...

Thank you for joining us today! I hope you enjoyed our posts! Please feel free to leave some love below. As always, stay creative and see you soon!

Hugs,
