Guest Designer: Nora Paolini

Hi everyone!

We have a special guest with us today! One of our recent winners, Nora Paolini, has joined us to share her beautiful art with us...

I am Nora from Uruguay, South America. After a few years of getting my law degree, I met an Italian guy, who would become my husband. Therefore, I moved to Italy, in 2007. Massi and I live in a small town, in the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia region, with our doggie Lucky. I love photography, travelling and reading. Two years ago, I found a new passion of crafting, and I have been learning techniques and experimenting since then. I love mixed media and altered art.

I took a plain wooden heart and made some stencilling with modeling paste. Then, I glued down on top of it some flowers, chipboards and art stones. The letters and hearts chipboards are from Scrapmatts. I used some DecoArt crackle paint. I coloured everything using acrylic paints (metallic and glossy); DecoArt fluids (Prussian blue hue and raw sienna). Finally, I applied some DecoArt metallic lustre (brilliant turquoise).

And a few close ups...

Thank you very much, Nora! Your altered heart is absolutely stunning! We hope to see more of your art via our challenges!

And thank you for stopping by, everyone! Don't forget, there is still time to enter the current challenge HERE. You do not have to go with the twist, it is optional, so let your imagination fly high and create something amazing!

Good luck! Stay creative!

Video Tutorial by Inna Bronnikova -Transparent tag with dried herbs

Hi

It's Inna Bronnikova with you today, presenting my video tutorial.
I decided to make a tag. I cut out 2 sides of the tag from the  zipper pocket so that the pocket was in the middle of it.

Inside the tag, I put a stamp with herbs and glued the dried grass, played a little bit with alcoholic ink.

Outside the tag, I used a texture with glossy accent and pigments. Sprinkled glossy glitter.
I stitched the tag around the perimeter on the sewing machine, cut off the excess and decorated it.

I hope you enjoy my tutorial. Hugs Inna

MMW#27: AMMG with a Twist (Use Natural Materials)

Hey All!

How is it going? It's been nice and hot here in the UK and we're enjoying it to the full. You have to as it won't last long! Where ever you are, I hope you're having a good time.

We're back with a new challenge and this time there's a twist! We'd like to see you use natural materials. My teamies absolutely smashed it and I hope you will feel inspired by their gorgeous samples for this month's theme.

Before I show you their masterpieces, I'd like to thank to those who entered our last challenge. Oh my, you guys are so talented. There were so many amazing entries, I have no idea how we're going to pick our favourites. But do come back to check who was selected on 16th July. I can't wait myself!

Without a further ado, please see the amazing inspiration from the DT below:

Hi
Do you like to walk in the woods or in the meadow? I love! I like to collect herbs and dry them for the herbarium. This tag I did with some of them. They are inside, between layers of film. I made a video for you, it will be published a little later.

I decided to work on a wooden board. I used natural materials that I gathered in the field and on the beach. From the beach I took the small piece of wood and these absolutely smooth stones; from the field I gathered the moss and the wheat grasses. I prepared the board with clear gesso, painted a stroke with black paint, and then distressed it with sandpaper and distress ink. I painted the wheat grasses with golden acrylic paste mixed with finishing varnish. With the rest of this mixture, I randomly covered the stones and the edges of the board. You can see more details on my blog.

The title of this piece, She Is Of Nature, embraces the theme of nature's soothing solitude, and yet mystery. I love the look of Encaustic Art, but I do not enjoy the fumes or the heat that is part of painting with hot wax. I decided to experiment by creating a Faux Encaustic canvas. I started with a canvas board and a combination of mediums like gesso, modeling paste, glue, crackle paste, and antiquing creams. I was able to achieve a waxy look by varying the amounts of mediums and building layers upon layers on paper, stamping and stenciling. From my backyard, I gathered a small branch and picked three fresh leaves from a tree. I embedded the leaves and string beneath several coats of my medium mixture and cut and glued circles from the branch. I 'rusted' some nails to attach my altered wood chips. Just a few last finishing touches and my experiment was complete. Please visit my blog for more in depth details, a slideshow and a full product list.

Maria
I looove using natural materials in my mixed media projects! Most often I use wooden branches, dry plants, sand and smalls stones. This time I made a thick notebook with textured mixed media covers. On top of the cover I created a multilayered composition using handmade paper, textile and a piece of tree bark. Inside are the aged sheets of paper and transparent dividers with dried plants on them, emphasized with transparent texture gel and alcohol inks. Big thanks to Nadezhda Knmelevskaya for teaching me this kind of art!

Torsa
This month our twist is with some natural materials !! I have created a layout where I have used Jute strings and natural dried straws !!

I'm totally speechless! What do you think? Feel free to leave a comment below, it's always lovely to hear from you. I hope you're feeling inspired to have a go. Whatever you decide to use on your project, please mention it in your blog post, especially if it is not immediately obvious.

Acrylic Dream Chase

Flip Cup Acrylic Pour on Mini Ceramic Tiles

Summer and hot weather have finally arrived, and with it a palette of tropical colors like ocean aquas and the sweet shades of dreamsicles! So with these summer-lovin' colors in mind, I have created Acrylic Dream Chase, a small mixed media canvas with a twist - Acrylic Poured Mini Tiles!

True acrylic pouring artists achieve spectacular results from professional grade acrylic paints and pouring mediums, 100% liquid treadmill lubricant and a torch. I would like to show you how I made a budget friendly acrylic pour using supplies from the hardware store and craft store acrylic paint.

Before I share the video below, here is a quick explanation of my project process. I began by using a stencil and modeling paste to apply a tile design to the canvas. Wanting to keep the background simple and dark to accent the colorful acrylic poured tiles, I applied only a coat of black gesso and metallic black paint followed by dry brushing gold on the raised areas.

I embellished the wood butterfly with a twisted wire body and antennae before gessoing and painting the vibrant colors. More gold dry brush was added, followed by a sparkle varnish. The 'Chase Your Dreams' phrase was painted in the same colors. I painted some decorative excelsior with more gold paint and attached it to the back of the butterfly.

The final step was to add all my pieces to the canvas. I used a heavy gel medium to make sure the ceramic tiles would attach firmly.

And now for my video on flip cup acrylic pouring. I hope you try it sometime, it is a lot of fun!
