MMW#31: AMMG with Twist (Moodboard) + Winner of MMW#29

Hello!

I can't believe we're half way through November already! We just got Halloween out of the way and Christmas stuff went up in the hops literally the next day! No pressure then! LOL! Well, we have a lot to talk about today so grab a cuppa and let's get to it...

Firstly, thank you to all who entered our challenges last month and throughout 2017. Your makes are always so beautiful and I hope that you will continue to join the fun and share your artistic explorations with us. Check the bottom of this post for the winner of MMW#29!

As you know, all good things come to an end and this year has been rather challenging. It was the fabulous DT ladies who made a fantastic effort and worked hard on all their inspirational project for you all. I would like to thank them all from the bottom of my heart! THANK YOU! We will however be saying goodbye to two of them. Leslie is going to join us for the last time this month and Torsa is saying her goodbyes today! Please could you spare a moment and leave them a comment below or visit their lovely blogs. I'm sure they would love to hear from you.

We always take a couple of months off and, once again, there won't be any challenges in December and January. I will come back during this time to introduce new sponsors, celebrate 1000 members on our MMW FB Group so will have a #GIVEAWAY for sure, we will have announce a DT Call and more so stay tuned! We will be back with a brand new challenge and a revamped blog on 1st February 2018!

Hello everybody!

I made a mini canvas. On its creation I was inspired by textures on the banner, chipboards Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Prize Paska and magical powders Lindy's.

Oh how I love this month's mood board! Its inspiration images are among my favorites: old paper, handwriting and rust! Instead of creating my usual urban decay themed canvas (the brick image was so tempting), I decided to step out of my comfort zone and do a Christmas piece, albeit a rustic one.

Using DecoArt's Media mediums (Crackle Paste, Modelling Paste, Sand Texture Paste, Matte Medium and Ultra Matte Varnish), I began to apply layers upon layers, alternating with pages, pattern pieces, stamping, stencilling, pen writing and doodling. I applied muted tones of color using Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays.

I decided to build my assemblage on a piece of cardboard that I treated with more DecoArt products.  I love how it has a look of old, weather tree bark.  When my background layers were finished and dried, it was time for a play with my found object stash.

Using an X-acto knife, I remove the negatives from a 35mm film strip and painted it with matte brown acrylic. Background and assemblage colors were next:  yellow-golds, sage, dark blue and purple that I sprayed, brush painted, dripped and splattered.

I finished my canvas with some die cut pieces, cheesecloth, excelsior and art stones.

Our November moodboard contains several interesting textures. I was particularly inspired by the pictures of handwritten text and the brick wall, and created this neo-vintag layout. The photo is of my father dressed as a Hanseatic merchant :)

I prepared a mixed media project in vintage style. I used all my small tag leftovers for the background and then I started to decorate with wonderful chipboard fairies. The result is a romantic vintage canvas.

Whooohoo! I bet you are itching to run to your craft room right now after seeing all this! What an amazing selection of mixed media goodness!

Hello mixed media lovers!

My name is Martina Stoycheva and I`m from Bulgaria. I live in small city on Black sea coast named Burgas. I am a happily married wife and a mom to a 3 years old daughter. 

My journey with mixed media started almost a year ago and since then I`m totally in love with it! The inspiration for my layout came as I was looking for challenges. I love to be challenged and this one grab my eye. Kraft, black and gold is soooo cool combination! It goes great with my black and white photo. 

First I ripped the paper for interest. Added a coat of clear gesso to prepare the page and then added texture with stencil and black gesso mixed with texture powder. Then came the fun part. I started putting pieces of paper, chipboard, twine, acetate stars and all kind of different things until they find their places.

I always like to add some pieces from old jewellery or old clock. I think that every piece of art looks different with some metal element in it. 

I want to thank Ingrid and the design team for the opportunity to be a guest designer.

MMW#30: AMMG with a Twist (Use or Imitate Glass)

Hi everyone and welcome back to our challenge blog!

We're back with a brand new challenge! I have so much to share with you today, but before I do, I'd like to say a big hi to all our followers and friends! I hope you are all well and enjoying yourself wherever you are. A big thank you to all who entered the last challenge. As always, you knocked our socks off and we will have a super-hard time to pick our winners and favourites. That is something to look forward to. 

This months' challenge comes with a Twist. Create Anything Mixed Media and for those who really enjoy a challenge... add something made of GLASS or IMITATES GLASS.

I recently purchased the new gorgeous Boho scrapbooking collection by Cocoa Vanilla and couldn't resist playing with it. I made an entire album and used all sorts of substrates including acetate (***hint hint***), plenty of glossy and glittery stuff as well as the gorgeous papers and die cuts from the collection. I had such a bad light here today I will re-take the photos and will post on my blog tomorrow so come back to check it all out HERE. I also took a video so I will share the tutorial with you soon! Stay tuned! But for now, here is the main image...

I was having one of those days where my 'creativity' was mad at my 'imagination' and my 'imagination' was not talking to anybody. If only I had an Idea Box to go to...

So I decided to make one, complete with the universal sign of a bright idea - the light bulb! And with it I had my project for this month's challenge, 'Use or Imitate Glass'.

The base of my project began as a faux marble and wood block made from resin that I had purchased to alter. I could hardly wait to cover up it's manufactured ugliness with some black gesso and brown acrylic paint! Next I added a light coat of crackle paste and set the block aside to dry while I worked on the embellishments for the box. 

My embellishments were an assortment of purchased elements and my own makes. The purchased clock face, mason jar lid, letters, mini padlock and key were treated with texture paste and 'rusted' with acrylic paint. From a sheet of chipboard, I cut, textured and painted the brackets, arrow and caution sign. 

Back to my box, I chipped away some of the crackle pieces before adding a stencilled number and paint. I then attached my prepared embellishments to the top of the block and on the four sides to complete my Idea Box.

Because our new Challenge is 'Use or Imitate Glass' I put a glass lamp on a throne of my triptych. I also covered the three images with clear embossing powder, giving them a glass look.

It is all about glass this month! I decided to decorate a beautiful old broken window which I got some time ago from a garage sale. It wasn't even on sale but was put aside to be thrown away later. Never happened :) I turned the window into a tribute to one of the most interesting figures in Russian 

history - Peter the Great. The dream of Russia's czar, Peter the Great, was to establish for Russia a “window to Europe” in the form of an outlet to the sea. This is how St. Petersburg was built. 

So I decided that my beautiful window deserved its Peter the Great. I decorated it with patterned paper, alcoholic ink, seashell and real corals. The navy meant a lot to Peter! Besides the glass in the window, I also used glass bead texture paste and real blue broken glass pieces as topping. Glass balls, glass-like plastic beads, epoxy cabochon and transparent liquid drops complete the project.

My latest canvas is made by me and my 10 years old step daughter. This is a cooperative creation. :)

This month is all about glass so I used glass microspheres, microbeads, and small glass pieces to decorate the background. I also add some seashell that look like thin glass chips.

I'm sure you'll agree that the team rocked this challenge inspiration again! We can't wait to see what you will create!

My name is Heidi and I live in the Netherlands. In my spare time I love to read, to hike and especially to make cards and mixed media projects, for which I love to use coloured images.

Already as a child I loved colouring, back then I only had coloured pencils. When I discovered card making, a few years ago (and mixed media more recently), it was an opportunity for me to share my colourings (with all kinds of mediums) with others, to send them as a card.

Through my blog and as a design team member for different companies I now can share my projects and my love for card making and mixed media with the online community.

Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I have the honour to be guest designing on the Mixed Media World Blog and I have my very first Art Journal Page to show you all: I love watching Vicky Papaioannou’s video’s (http://www.clips-n-cuts.com/) and I wanted to try something like that to see if I like working in an art journal. So, I got myself a journal (every reason to buy new craft supplies is a good one, right ?) (my journal is the following size: 13 x 21 cm Art Plus Moleskine Sketchbook) and then I had to find some inspiration.

So, a while ago my friend Meghan Shea sent me a beautiful card and in the envelope she also included some stamped images and fun papers. One of the images is this beautiful stamped flower duo (digital Power Poppy stamp called “Easy Breezy Coneflowers”), it’s quite large, so I thought it would fit nicely on my page. And on the other page I wanted to write a quote about friendship (I searched the internet until I found one that I liked).

Since this is my first art journal page I didn’t really knew where to start so I did what I mostly do, when making cards, and that’s colouring the main image and working from that. I coloured the flowers with my Copic Sketch markers and then fussy cut the image out, leaving a tiny white border. For my Copic colours I used: Y000, Y11, Y08, Y26, E42, E44, E89, G40, YG17 and G94.

Next I applied one coat of gesso to my journal page. While that was drying I went through my acrylic paints and looked for colours that complimented the flower: I found a “Light Oxide Red” colour from Talens and a “Beige” colour from DecoArt that I combined on this page. I applied the paints with a brush until I was happy. Then I free hand wrote the quote out on the right hand page, with a graphite pencil, in a calligraphy style that I learned myself as a kid. When I was happy I went over the quote with an Amsterdam Acrylic Marker in the colour “Oxide Black” (it’s like a pen filled with acrylic paint, not all the colours they carry are opaque, but the black one is).

To create a bit more interest to the page I stamped on the page with a background stamp from Studio Light (number STAMPSL180) and “Jet Black” StazOn ink, then filling up parts of this stamped image with a gold Edding Gel Roller pen and smudging that with my fingers. I also brought in some accents on the quote with a white Uni-Ball Signo pen and then finally adhered the flowers to the left hand page with Amsterdam “Extra Heavy Gel Medium in the Gloss finish” from my stash.

And that finishes this art journal page! I had a blast working on this project and since I joined The Crafter's Workshop design team in August so this will surely not be the last page I create.
